Well, he is, according to this CNN article: Murderous Santa display draws stares.

Pretty crazy stuff.

And no, I haven’t abandoned this WordPress.com blog. Just got busy with other things and haven’t had a chance to do anything with it lately. Hopefully they’ve added some new features… part of the interesting comparison between this and the Blogger site I set up is watching this one evolve, since it was still a bit of a work-in-progress.

Anyway, back to our regular blogging schedule. Or thereabouts.

 

Ronald McDonald robs Wendys!

Yes, it’s strange but true: Ronald MacDonald robs Wendy’s, loses job:

Now the 22-year-old MacDonald has been charged with stealing from a safe at the Wendy’s restaurant where he worked.

The man is no relation to the cheerful, red-haired clown who is the face of the McDonald’s advertising campaign.

It’s especially nice how they clarify that he’s no relation to the “real” Ronald McDonald.

 

Black Friday

So here I am, awake at six in the morning the day after Thanksgiving, because my wife called at 5:55 to ask me a question about buying something. What’s worse? I didn’t even know she had left!

Anyway, I’m wondering about plugging Google AdSense into WordPress.com, and the only solution I’ve really hit upon is dropping them here straight into the HTML on the form. There doesn’t seem to be a way to modify the template like Blogger gives you to do that.

Maybe I should explore the WordPress.com service in more depth first– I just noticed the item on this entry screen marked “custom fields”. Hmmm. More as I play.

CNN: Bartender jailed for lethal tequila

A 32-year-old Norwegian bartender was sentenced to six months in prison Wednesday for serving a customer so much tequila that he fell into a coma and died.

According to a district court in the southwestern city of Hokksund the bartender, whose name was withheld, pleaded guilty to serving 34-year-old Leif Henning Nilsen 19 shots of the strong Mexican liquor in 90 minutes at the Spiseriet restaurant in May 2004.

19 shots of tequila?? Holy damn, that’s off the hook. Why would any bartender serve that much alcohol to any one person? Oh:

The ruling said the bartender intentionally contributed to the excess by drinking shots of water, tricking the victim into what he thought was a drinking contest.

I smell an episode of “Law & Order”…

 

stripslashes(), or lack thereof

I can’t help notice that on the “about” text of the site here, the apostrophe in “I’m” is still escaped with a backslash. That should be a simple fix, just a call to PHP’s stripslashes() function.

On the other hand, the “Uncategorized” category problem I mentioned in my last post appears to have been fixed.

 

testing the wordpress service…

… and I seem to have found a couple of bugs.

First, the system let me create and publish a blank post. Seems like that shouldn’t be allowed, it would just clutter up the system.

Second, I notice when I changed categories on the first post, it was still showing the “Uncategorized” category as having 1 entry.

Third, when I deleted the “Uncategorized” blank post, it then showed the Uncategorized category as having -1 entry. That’s very odd, and hopefully just a cache issue.

Okay, I’ve set up this blog to check out WordPress’s online service. I understand it’s free, a la Blogger. It should be interesting… I’ll be putting it through it’s paces.
